Dressing for fall as a 'Summer'
How to embrace the season while embracing your personal best colors
But first, a disclaimer: Although I am very much a believer in seasonal color analysis1, I do not believe in telling anyone what to wear or not wear.
However, I enjoy the simplicity and calm that comes with choosing to stick to a limited color palette when I get dressed.2
I’ve personally chosen to mostly wear colors in my True Summer color palette, because I genuinely like them! But, the autumn season can feel a bit daunting for someone who’s color characteristics are more often compared to a foggy coastal beach than to a scenic drive through Vermont in fall.
Without further ado, here’s what’s inspiring me this fall, including the album I can’t stop listening to.

Merlot & Dusty Blue
For a Summer, a dusty blue is a great way to soften the richer colors we associate with the autumn. Select purples with a decent amount of blue in them, to ensure a cool harmony with your cool undertones.
Cool Purple & Brown
Incorporating browns in accessories, or on the bottom half, is a great way to sneak warmer tones into your outfits, without having the color right next to your face. To keep the rest of the outfit ‘in palette’, go for a cool purple and taupe skirt.
Plum & Cherry
I absolutely love a tonal look. Mixing textures (soft, shiny, sleek) adds dimension. I’m also a huge fan of bringing in seasonal colors via nail polish. In this case, I’ve used the nail as a pop of cherry (perhaps unexpected in Autumn?) but a dark burgundy, mauve, or slate blue would be great alternatives this time of year for a Summer :)
And…what I’ve been listening to on repeat: A La Sala by Khruangbin
What’s inspiring you this fall?

The timing of this is impeccable! I'm doing a clockwise challenge where I basically try to wear all the pieces in my wardrobe and styling my summer-y pieces as fall comes in has been hard. Seeing the lighter colors that can work as a transition is so helpful!
Wow, great ideas for True summer people. Those colors are so gorgeous and rich! Time to start planning the tweaks to my fall colors! 🍁🍃❤️🌿🍂
