I am joining the chorus of people who agree with you that trenchcoats are not a thing that feels like it fits in my real life! But I’m also going to add that blazers almost never do it for me. I have tried countless times to find a laser that I could wear the way that I see all over Pinterest, but every time I put one on, I felt like I was supposed to be going to an office. It was only once I realized that very few of my favorite influencers wear blazers and instead rely on other types of jackets that I let go of that idea.
I love this. I don't get trench coats at all, and also I never see people wearing them in real life - do people just take pictures of themselves, post them on social media, and then put them back in their closets? Yes, I think they really do.
I have accepted that sweatshirts and t-shirts are not for me, and there's no point in waiting for a perfect one to turn up.
Earlier this year I saw two women meeting up for a meal both wearing super long trenches and it imprinted on my memory! Because I don’t see them on the West coast very often :)
Great post! There are so many typical wardrobe essentials that I’ve struggled to fit into my style and are now no-gos for me: blazers, cardigans, sweatshirts, plain cotton tees, black trousers, handbags, sneakers. I would never say never completely, but I am extremely cautious when I find myself listing after these things.
Love this. I’ve accepted that the baggy on top baggy on bottom style that looks cute on the Pinterest girlies makes me look frumpy and not put together in real life. And also I will never be a ballet flats or loafers person - sneakers all the way.
Great list! Couldn't agree more about a trench. Hate them lol. Except I'm realizing that I need to stop buying wide leg denim! I just don't like it and prefer straight or my fave, kick crop.
Leaning into what you love and not what other people love is the most difficult but rewarding style shift! Good for you for doing the work to figure this out!

Omg how did I forget blazers!!! Not for me, ma’am!!

Love this. I love the look of the silky blouse on really small chested tall thin women. I have never been that 😂 letting stuff like that go is freeing
100% but I bet there’s something else you feel amazing in :)

Love the thoughts (as usual) and ALSO those two pics at the top are so stunning, Maureen!!!
Thank you!! Thought it would be fun to share some “in the wild” photos for once.

Yes!!! I could have added loafers to my list too….either too chunky or too preppy

Love a kick crop!!
